spend any time researching the instruments used in the industrial landscape and you’ll undoubtedly run into the gristleizer. it’s used on countless records over several decades since the direction of the world was blessed, and forever altered, by its creation.
lucky for us, its design and circuit were released in Practical Electronics magazine well before opensource was a thing. many hobbyists [1] and companies [2] have built clones and alterations of the design.
that brings us to us
gris is a digital recreation of the classic throbbing gristle gristleizer effect; faithful [3] analog character modeling with expanded modulation options [4].
[1] wow, this site has so much great information. I hope it doesn’t evaporate someday.
[2] dirt monger makes some really interesting stuff. this is my jam, and really makes me want to move some of my weirder effect designs forward.
[3] let’s continue being honest with each other. I’ve put a lot of work into making the modeled sound and behavior as accurate as I can. I’ll continue to iterate on accuracy for several more versions, unless I stumble upon something much more satisfying in the process.
[4] and eventually a modular model with (maybe) even more functionality baked in.
