ember and weave

haven’t felt like writing about what I’ve been working on, so here’s a blanket update.

needed a reverb/delay for one of my signal paths

I chain delay + delay + reverb + delay pedals on my boards, but have run out of pedals [1], and frankly, can’t quite find the right sound in them most of the time [2].

so I made a reverb + delay pedal with some very specific voicing. and options!

ember is a warm reverb + delay with character.

one thing to highlight are the selectable clipping modes. these come from a dsp module I’ve been working on; originally targetted as a compile-time option added statically at the end of the signal chain. for ember, three of the modes in the module are made selectable through a hardware switch, rather than being statically added at compile time.

here’s a weird one

this one comes from playing with my friend james who’s really into modular synth. during our last session, he used this gated step sequencer sample thing, and it was magnificent. I don’t have anything even remotely like that, and can’t achieve that effect without splicing and editing in my daw (can’t do that live).

so I made one.

weave is a rhythmic comb filter sequencer. it doesn’t take external midi control, but I’d love to add that in a future iteration.

[1] I don’t have enough, despite what my wife believes about my collection! honest, pa, honest!

[2] yes, I technically do have a few other delays in my stash, but again, they mostly sound the same; dry, digital, cold, and that’s only what I want in very specific scenarios.
